Yr 1: Contexts Written Assignment Online OGR
This is my Yr 1: Contexts Written Assignment Online OGR. Please let me know your thoughts and opinions, on any improvements that can be made to the structure or conclusion of my plan for the essay it would be a great help :)
Hey Shannon,
ReplyDeleteI've got a radical suggestion: in terms of focus and precision, I wonder if this assignment might be helped if you were to simply focus on Cocteau's film. The reason I suggest this is a) practical (word count) and b) thematic. If you're going to do Jung's theories justice and if you're going to deal with Belle and the Beast, I think you've got enough there for a 1000 word assignment. Trying to do too much here risks writing too superficially about everything, or you risk being too many words over the word count. Secondly, it feels as if the comparison between the two films is leaving you to conclude that, ultimately, there's no real difference between them...
My instinct is that, for the purposes of this specific assignment, it would be better if you gave you energy to what's interesting about Cocteau's film, particularly in terms of the animus and that more complex idea of the Beast manifesting Belle's own sexual self. There is indeed a longer version of an essay like this that does reach out to the other adaptations, but I think you'll be better served by focusing on the 1946 film exclusively, and using that to demonstrate your understanding of Jung's ideas.
What do you think?
