'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari' (1920) Film Review

This is my film review on Robert Wiene's 'The Cabinet of Caligari' focusing around the topic of pop culture and how the film has influenced the work of directors such as Tim Burton.

  1. Hey Shannon - your first review (or rather critical response to a film) done and dusted - congrats. It's good that you've focused in here on the influence on Burton's work - focus is good - but if your reader didn't know Caligari at all, I think they would have welcomed a bit more 'about' the film itself before you moved on to tracking it's influence. A short story synopsis perhaps - a sense of grounding your subject for the reader, so you establish the original film before you move on to discussing its influence. Just a small nitpick too - you're missing an 'E' from 'The' in your post title :)

  2. Hi Phil, thank you have changed that 'E' problem now :D, I will make sure to give the reader a bit more on the story of the film next time in my review on Metropolis next week, thank you for the heads up!

  3. Hi Shannon,
Well done on getting your first review out there!
Yes, as Phil says, it's an excellent idea to look at the influence that the film has had on contemporary productions, but first and foremost, you should be analysising the film itself, using examples of other films to support your analysis (rather than here, where you are really analysing Burton's work and referring to Caligari in support).

Good start though - looking forward to reading the next one!
